Theater Update
To Our Exit 7 Family, Friends, and Community,
I want to take a moment to update you on what has been happening behind the scenes at our wonderful theater and why you may have noticed a pause in our usual spring programming and announcements.
We also recognize that communication with our members has been quieter than usual during this time, and for that, we sincerely apologize. Our focus has been on addressing the immediate challenges within the building, and we appreciate your patience as we worked through these unexpected circumstances.
Over the past several months, our building has experienced significant water damage, particularly in the basement. This was caused by a broken water pipe in the neighboring school building, which shares an underground tunnel with our basement. As a result, the basement is currently not functional. We are facing the need for extensive repairs, including bathrooms, walls, flooring, electrical, and plumbing systems.
We have been working hard to assess the damage, sort through items, and determine what could be saved and what unfortunately had to be discarded. This has been a time-consuming and emotional process, as many of these items hold value to our productions and our 40 year history. In addition, a number of costumes, props, and set pieces were damaged beyond repair, representing a significant loss to our theater resources.
Because the basement is currently not functional, we have had to temporarily utilize the stage as a storage area. This has directly impacted our ability to schedule and host events during this time.
Additionally, we have not yet announced our upcoming season. This is not due to a lack of planning, but rather our commitment to doing things the right way. The shows we are pursuing are currently in high demand, and we are working through the proper licensing channels to secure rights before making any official announcements. Our season announcement is coming soon! We are also excited to share that Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, our summer youth production, is still scheduled as planned, and we look forward to bringing that experience to life. In the meantime, we encourage you to stay tuned—there are some other exciting events and special offerings in the works that we can’t wait to share with you.
We know this pause is not what any of us want. Our theater is a place of creativity, connection, and community, and we are eager to return to that as soon as we can. We miss seeing the faces of our casts, crews, families, and audience members, and we miss the energy and life that fills our stage.
As we move forward, there will be opportunities for members and supporters to help us rebuild and prepare for what comes next. If you are in a position to contribute, whether through donations, supplies, or time, your support will make a meaningful difference as we restore our space and get back to doing what we love. Donations can be made through our secure giving page.
Thank you for your patience, your understanding, and your continued belief in our theater. We are committed to coming back stronger and cannot wait to share what’s ahead.
With appreciation,
Adam Malmborg
