Exit 7 Show Proposal Submission & Selection Process 2025-2026

The Exit 7 Players are now accepting show proposals and applications from directors for our 2025-2026 season. Our goal in selecting a season of theater at Exit 7 is to offer our community and patrons a diverse season of theater consisting of musicals and/or plays with varied styles, cast sizes & points of view. It is the intention of the Board of Directors at Exit 7 to produce four or five shows (exact number to be determined) in our 2025-2026 season.

We encourage anyone who is interested in directing, music directing or choreographing to apply and are open to hearing your ideas and presentations. Additional information about our season selection, any application deadlines and interviewing process is listed below.

We accept proposals for the following time slots during our season (although the exact number of slots may be more or less). Individuals may apply with a maximum of three different show proposals at any of the following times:

ADDITIONAL OPTIONAL TIME SLOTS/EDITS TO THE TRADITIONAL FORMAT:

  • Other shows such as ONE ACTS, SHORT PLAY FESTIVALS, MUSICAL/PLAY STAGE READINGS, CHARITY EVENTS/SHOWS, CONCERTS, ETC may be proposed for times in our season that are in between other productions, please indicate which dates you would like for your event to take place and any details the Board of Directors would need to know about the content of your event. These “extra” productions are selected at the discretion of the Board of Directors.
  • Occasionally it makes sense to do a show in a certain time slot that is not in the “traditional” Exit 7 Players format (i.e. a straight play takes place during/themed for Halloween). The Board of Directors will consider these options as well as they consider the season as a whole, Exit 7 Theater is not “married” to the format listed above, it is merely a format that we typically adhere to.

Our goal in selecting a season of theater at Exit 7 is to offer our community and patrons a diverse season of theater consisting of musicals and plays, whenever possible with varied styles, cast sizes and points of view.  It is the intention of the Board of Directors at Exit 7 to produce four or five shows in our 2025-2026 season.  Depending on the availability of performance rights, the Board of Directors may continue to seek applications at any time for any productions that are chosen by the Board of Directors.

*The Exit 7 Players accepts all applications and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender expression, age, national origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations.

A list of interview questions are provided below to help you prepare.

  • Each show proposal needs to be submitted using a separate proposal form (see link below).
  • January 6, 2025 (12:01AM EST) is the deadline for all proposals.  Proposals received after this date will not be considered.

December 2024-January 2025

  • The Season Selection Committee will review applications as they are received and contact individuals to schedule an interview with the Committee to take place in January/Early February
  • The Season Selection Committee will verify the availability of performance rights for any shows that require licensing. If shows do not have performance rights available, applicants will be made aware ASAP and given another opportunity to submit an alternate title if they desire.

  • The Season Selection Committee and Board of Directors will hold in-person interviews for all proposals and applications at a date available to the applicants and Season Selection Committee.

February-March 2025

  • At a monthly board meeting in February or possibly March, the Board of Directors will engage in an informed discussion of the shows, and candidates based on submitted applications, interviews, and information presented by the Season Selection Committee.  The Board will then finalize the selection for all of its productions and inform applicants no later than the last day of March 2025. Upon payment of performance rights through appropriate licensing holders, Exit 7 will do a formal announcement of our 2025-2026 Season as soon as possible (preferably all at once, but it may be necessary to piecemeal shows selected to ensure the Fall Show is able to audition with enough time).

ALL applicants must submit a Show Proposal Form.

Should you have further questions, feel free to reach out to Andy Price, Vice President, Chairperson of the Season Selection Committee

Other information to productions chosen for our season:

  • The Exit 7 Board of Directors may decide to produce a title not submitted by the proposal process to “round out” the season with the other proposed show titles that are selected.
  • Performance rights aren’t guaranteed. The licensing houses grant performance rights based on other amateur theaters production of the same title in the “surrounding area” (which, is not formally established with a radius of miles), National Tours/International Tours of a professional company performing the title, a professional theater hosting the title, or other factors that are not made apparent to us upon application.
  • Once granted the rights, Exit 7 must make the payment in full to announce the title. Then the licensing house will typically send out the materials 11 weeks prior to the opening night performance. Sometimes the materials come earlier, but we cannot guarantee that.
  • Applicants chosen to produce a show may announce their acceptance once Exit 7 formally announces shows on the official Exit 7 website and social media pages.
  • Audition nights are chosen by the production team and scheduled with the Board of Directors, based on the availability of the various theater spaces. Typically the schedule of auditions are as such:
    • Early Fall 2025 - Audition in May/June 2025
    • December 2025 - Audition in July/August 2025
    • February 2026 - Audition in November 2025
    • Spring 2026 - Audition in December 2025/January 2026
    • Summer Youth 2026 - Audition in March/April 2026
    • Other productions needing auditions - TBD with availability
  • Rehearsal nights are based on individual production team’s availability but should also coincide with Exit 7’s schedule. Teams are responsible for scheduling a minimum of 8-10 hours a week for the 10-12 week rehearsal period (but no more than 12 hours a week). Exit 7 is known for their high production values and adequate rehearsal time is necessary to achieve this from show to show.
  • The Exit 7 Board will assign producers to the productions. You may request to work with specific moard Members as your producer, but the Board is ultimately in control of assigning them to each production.
