Summary:

It’s been said that “true love never dies.” Well, for one Cantankerous English novelist, that is certainly true!  In this “spirited” play by Noel Coward, Charles Condomine is a temperamental writer haunted, along with his new wife Ruth, by the spirit of his first wife: the vivacious Elvira.  After Elvira is mistakenly summoned during a séance by the medium, Madame Arcati, Charles suddenly finds himself in the middle of a most otherworldly love triangle as both his first wife and new wife vie for his affections. Lighthearted and endearing, Blithe Spirit explores loss and love with tongue firmly planted in cheek in supernatural fashion combining farce, emotion, physical comedy and wit to goosebump-giving effect.

Seeking 5 women and 2 men for the following roles:

CHARLES CONDOMINE (M, 40s) An esteemed writer struggling to find his muse after the death of his first wife. Determined to be witty at all costs. Tries in vain to save his current marriage while being haunted by his first. This role will require some physical comedy

RUTH CONDOMINE (F, 20s-30s) Charles’ 2nd wife. A bit insecure and jealous of Charles’ 1st marriage. Smart but a bit stuffy. Her hospitality is strained by the arrival of an unexpected guest. This role will require special theatrical makeup and some physical comedy

ELVIRA CONDOMINE (F, 20s-40s) Charles’ first wife, now deceased. Feckless, irresponsible, and morally unstable. Nevertheless she is the (after)life of the party. This role will require special theatrical makeup and some physical comedy

MADAME ARCATI (F, 20s-70s) A psychic, oracle, seer into the other world, a master or the spiritual arts…or just crazy. This role will require a small amount of physical comedy

GEORGE BRADMAN (M, 40s-50s) The local physician and friend of the Condomines. A skeptic who sees the humor in the situation

MRS. VIOLET BRADMAN (F, 30s-50s) As in the name, the Doctor’s wife. Not quite as dismissive of the spiritual as her husband. Can be a bit flighty.

EDITH (F, 20s) The Condomine’s Cockney maid. Her seeming ineptitude at her job masks some hidden depths. This role will require a fair amount of physical comedy
